FAQ

Questions we hear often.

What is a startup visa and how does it differ from a work visa?

A startup visa is for founders building their own company in the destination country; instead of an employment contract, assessment focuses on the idea, team and growth potential.

Which country suits my startup: the Netherlands, Portugal, Denmark or Slovenia?

It depends on your stage: the Netherlands offers the strongest ecosystem and speed, Portugal lower costs, Denmark a highly structured route, and Slovenia low costs and competition. In a short conversation we match your situation against all four.

How do I get an endorsement for the Dutch startup visa?

You pitch to one of the government-recognised facilitators (accredited accelerators, universities or investors); if they find your team and idea credible they issue the endorsement, after which the visa application can be filed.

Do I need significant capital or an existing company?

No; most of these programmes let you incorporate after arrival and focus on the credibility of the idea and team rather than heavy capital. Proof of funds for the first year of living costs is required.

What happens after the initial residence period ends?

All of these permits are renewable; if your company shows real traction (customers, revenue, hiring), renewal and eventually permanent residence become available.

Can my family join me?

Yes; in all four countries spouses and children are covered by family reunification, and spouses usually receive full work rights.

What happens if my application is rejected?

You can review the assessor's feedback and refine your plan, or try a different one of these four countries; a rejection in one programme doesn't close the door to Europe.

Do I need to have already incorporated my company?

No; in all four routes, formal incorporation usually happens after approval or after arrival. What you need in advance is a clear idea, team and business plan.

Can I keep my current job while going through the process?

Yes; preparing documents and going through assessment typically takes weeks to a few months, and you can work on it alongside your current job; physical presence usually becomes necessary from the visa-filing stage onward.
