Netherlands Startup Visa: the complete 2026 guide from endorsement to residence

Everything about the Dutch startup visa: facilitator requirements, documents, costs, application steps and the path from a one-year permit to permanent residence.

What is the Dutch startup visa?

Launched in 2015, the Netherlands startup visa lets non-EU founders reside in the country for one year while launching an innovative company. Unlike a work visa, no employment contract is needed; the key to entry is an endorsement from a recognised facilitator.

Core requirements

  • An endorsement from a government-recognised facilitator (accredited accelerator, investor or knowledge institution)
  • An innovative idea with a written business plan
  • Structural cooperation with the facilitator during the first year
  • Proof of sufficient funds for the first year of living costs
  • Valid travel documents and a certificate of good conduct

Transparent costs

Plan for the visa application fee, the facilitator fee (depending on the body) and monthly living costs. In a consultation session you receive a precise estimate for your situation.

After year one

If your company shows real traction you can renew through self-employment routes. Five years of continuous residence open the door to permanent residence.
